“No matter what industry you work in you have to remember that it’s run by people – people who want to work in an environment where they feel safe and productive and happy,” notes Michelle Sangeloty ’17.
“That’s why I love Human Resources,” she says. “It’s a fun field where you're dealing with the fundamentals of what a business is: keeping people happy within their jobs, and making sure that they're all working together to get the job done.”
Sangeloty, who majored in Human Resources Management and Sociology, feels that her Bryant education, with its balance of business and liberal arts, makes her ideally qualified to help workers reach their full potential. “To be good at HR you need to understand the psychology of it all, and how people work” she says.
“I think the combination of subjects Bryant provides is invaluable.”
Sangeloty mixed coursework like classes in HR Development and the Sociology of Work with co-curricular activities – like the Society for Human Resource Management – and positions with Bryant’s PwC Center for Diversity and Inclusion and the Fisher Center Advisory Board.
She discovered a knack for advocating for others. “I think the biggest thing I learned at Bryant is that I could make a difference,” she says. “I have a voice and I can make an impact.
“My time at Bryant helped me grow from a scared freshman who was afraid to say anything to knowing that I can speak up, and that I have seat at the table.”
After graduation Sangeloty took a position with Travelers’ competitive Human Resources Leadership Development Program where she’ll gain experience across a wide range of jobs. She credits her education with helping her build the skills – and find the confidence – she’ll need to succeed.
“I’ll be forever grateful I’m a Bulldog,” she says.
