A rising leader, inspired by her mentors, makes sure everyone's included

For Chelsea Parkes ’19, true success means helping others be successful as well. “I like working with people and helping to make sure that they’re performing at their best,” she explains. At Bryant, she’s found a like-minded community, where success is everyone’s business.

Parkes, a Marketing and Management major, values courses like the marketing research class she took with Kaitlyn Pintrairch ’03, ’09 MBA, who in addition to being a member of the Bryant faculty is also the owner and president of her own company. “The professors here have real backgrounds in their field and can bring real-world applications into the classroom, which I really appreciate,” Parkes says.

“Bryant gives you such a good baseline to jumpstart your career,” says Parkes. “Everyone’s connected here, which is really helpful. My professors have brought so many incredible speakers into the classroom.”

As alumni chair of the Delta Zeta sorority, she helps bring successful graduates back to campus to share advice and stories. “They love coming back,” says Parkes. “They like knowing what’s going on here on campus and assisting students whenever they can.”

Helping students find their path is an essential part of Parkes’ work as President of Bryant’s Multicultural Student Union (MSU), where she works to promote diversity and cultural awareness. “MSU provides an inclusive space for us to talk about cultural issues that happen both on campus and in the wider world,” Parkes notes. “I’ve been a part of the group since freshman year, and it’s not only given me a place to discuss the issues that are important to me, but also provided me with an opportunity to lead.”

She’s inspired by the work done by Kevin Martins, the Assistant Director of Bryant’s PwC Center for Diversity and Inclusion, in making sure the campus offers an inclusive and welcoming environment.

“He’s always been a mentor to me," she says, "and I’m so excited I get to work with him as President of the MSU. I would love to someday be doing what he’s doing now.”
