Intercultural Center honors outstanding seniors
Annual awards recognize students for their efforts in the classroom, the community, and on the athletic fields.
Maria Musarskaya ’09 (Moscow, Russia) has been a regular presence on campus planning programs to educate the Bryant community. The past president of the International Student Organization (ISO) is a four-year participant in the annual i2i cultural celebration, a resident assistant, and a former Orientation and 4Mile leader.
At the Intercultural Center’s Senior Awards banquet earlier this month, she was recognized with the United Nations Award for her efforts to foster an appreciation and understanding of different customs and traditions.
“Bryant shows its dedication and appreciation for students by recognizing our efforts and providing us with opportunities to take charge, and shine in our own unique ways,” says Musarskaya, a marketing concentrator who will start Bryant’s One-Year MBA program in September. “This allows us to develop our own Character of Success.”

Amber DeAngelis ’09 (Warwick, RI)

Opportunities to volunteer and lead
Pires received the ICC Community Service Award for her involvement with Relay for Life, the Center for Student Involvement’s (CSI) Leadership Council, and as a resident assistant. She was also part of the first group of Bryant students that traveled to New Orleans three years ago to assist in the recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina.
The award is meaningful to Pires because her goal is to work in higher education and specialize in creating volunteer and leadership opportunities for students. “Receiving this award instills in me the confidence to go after my dreams,” says Pires.
Sanchez was recognized with the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award for her dedication as the president of the International Business Association, co-chair of i2i, and a leader in the 4Mile program.
“I never expected this honor, but it makes me very happy that others see the energy and passion I put into the things I do,” she says.
Gette, the second recipient of the MLK leadership award, is a member of President Machtley’s Senior Advisory Council and a former lead counselor for 4Mile.
“This award shows that Bryant recognizes and appreciates the efforts of students who dedicate themselves in and out of the classroom,” she says.
Giving back to Bryant
Branch says it was an honor to join the ranks of past recipients of the ICC Jim Thorpe Athletic Award for excellence on and off the field. In addition to playing football, Branch was a co-chair of Extravaganza, a DJ for WJMF 88.7 FM, and an anchor on the morning news program created by the Media Production Club.
“Both athletics and the Bryant community have been huge parts of my college life,” says Branch, who is applying to the Bryant Master of Public Accountancy (MPAc) program.
Sattler ’09 (Gruenwald, Germany), who also received the Jim Thorpe Athletic Award, is currently pursuing a Master in Security Studies at Georgetown University after completing her Bryant degree requirements in December. She was a member of the Track and Field and Volleyball teams, as well as founder of the Bryant Debaters.
“I very much appreciate being honored for my commitment to student life at Bryant,” she says.
A friend to all
De Angelis ’09, the co-winner of the friendship award, says the award was a surprise, but those around her believe she is more than deserving. In addition to directing the Bryant Player’s “The Perfect Idiot,” De Angelis is active in the ISO and CSI’s leadership development programs.
“I felt privileged to receive this award because it means I was able to give back to the Bryant community,” she says.
Schultz, the co-recipient of the friendship award, spent two years helping students as an office assistant in the ICC. He is also past president of Bryant Pride, a member of the leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa, and a recent inductee into Alpha Kappa Delta for excellence in sociology.
“This award is special to me because it shows that I have helped improve the quality of life for multicultural and international students at Bryant,” he says.
Nemeth, one of the recipients of the Berta Hysell ICC Spirit Award, is a peer tutor, a member of the Delta Chi fraternity, and a past orientation leader. The Honors Program member will begin a master’s program in environmental economics at Duke University in the fall.
“This award is special because it recognizes my enthusiasm for Bryant and all the hard work I have put in over the years,” he says.
